European Union · Battery extended producer responsibility · Reviewed August 25, 2026.
The short version
The best battery EPR providers in the EU are not interchangeable. The right choice depends on the countries where you sell, the battery categories in your products, and how much of the work you want to outsource. There is no single EU battery registration: Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 requires registration in each Member State where a producer first makes batteries available.
Landbell Group / European Recycling Platform has the strongest documented fit for complex multinational programs that need an established producer-responsibility network. take-e-way is the clearest portal-led option for coordinating country registrations and several EPR streams. ecosistant offers the most accessible digital self-service route in this comparison. Interzero publishes detailed Germany services with international coordination, while Deutsche Recycling is a consultant-led option for registration, reporting and take-back-system selection.
Most battery EPR pricing is quote-based. A provider fee is only one layer: national registration, authorised-representative, producer-responsibility organisation, reporting, take-back and recycling charges may be separate.

Start with a country and battery-category matrix
Article 55 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 requires producers to register in each Member State where they make a battery available on the market for the first time. The registration data distinguishes five categories: portable, industrial, light means of transport, electric vehicle and SLI batteries. Article 56 then places extended producer responsibility on the producer, including the financial responsibilities defined by the regulation.
This means a claim such as “EU coverage” is only the start of due diligence. Ask the provider to map every target country, battery category, legal producer, registration route, producer-responsibility organisation, reporting frequency and authorised-representative requirement. A central service team may use its own local scheme, a group company, or a partner; the proposal should say which.
No single EU number exists. One contract or portal can coordinate several markets, but it does not replace country-specific registrations, scheme participation or national reporting.
If a marketplace restriction is the immediate problem, legal registration and platform validation are separate steps. Our Zalando battery EPR reactivation guide shows why a valid national record may still need platform-side submission and review.

How to read the table: “Published scope” means the provider describes the service on an official page. It does not prove that every service is directly available for every battery category in every EU country. Get the final matrix and exclusions in writing.
Provider profiles
MULTINATIONAL PRO NETWORK
Landbell Group / European Recycling Platform
Landbell Group publishes battery compliance services covering registration, reporting and fee management, together with authorised-representative, consulting and local take-back support. Its public materials describe services for portable, industrial and automotive batteries and a wider environmental-compliance network.
Landbell’s 2024 Sustainability Report identifies battery producer-responsibility organisations in several European countries, including Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Spain. That is strong evidence of an operating network, but it should not be read as a promise that the same group entity, contract or battery-category scope applies everywhere.
Best fit: larger sellers and manufacturers that need multi-country governance, local take-back and an experienced scheme network.

PORTAL · MULTI-STREAM EPR
take-e-way
take-e-way publishes a broad operational scope: battery registrations in the countries where a seller operates, authorised-representative support, participation in producer-responsibility or take-back organisations, quantity reports, and related labelling or technical support. Its EPR Tool is designed to track registrations, documents, reports and certificates.
This makes take-e-way attractive when battery EPR overlaps with WEEE or packaging. However, an “all EU countries” service statement still needs a country-by-country proposal. Ask which obligations are performed by take-e-way itself, by a local group company or by a partner.
Best fit: e-commerce and mid-market compliance teams that value a central portal and one operational contact across EPR streams.
SELF-SERVICE · E-COMMERCE
ecosistant
ecosistant publishes two distinct models. Self-Service provides digital guidance and manuals for businesses that can perform parts of the process themselves. Premium Service covers registrations, certificates, quantity reporting, monitoring and account management across a stated 30 European countries, including all 27 EU Member States.
The advertised “from €24.90 per country” figure is an entry price for the digital service, not a complete battery EPR price. The provider’s FAQ says WEEE and battery manuals are add-ons, while Premium Service is quoted after consultation. National schemes, authorities, authorised representatives and recycling fees can sit outside the service price.
Best fit: smaller online sellers that want a guided route now and the option to move to managed service later.
GERMANY DETAIL · INTERNATIONAL COORDINATION
Interzero
Interzero’s battery page publishes a three-step portal route and German services covering registration, reporting, take-back and regulatory information. It also states that its EPR Services team offers worldwide battery-compliance coordination from a single source.
The public page is much more specific about Germany than other EU markets. That is not a reason to exclude Interzero, but it changes the buying test: require a written country matrix, the delivery entity in each market, and the distinction between provider fees, scheme fees and recycling costs.
Best fit: companies solving a German battery obligation first and adding other countries through the same relationship.
TAKE-BACK SYSTEM SELECTION · FULL SERVICE
Deutsche Recycling
Deutsche Recycling publishes a Battery Recycling Service that combines consultation on EU and national requirements with take-back-system selection, registration, recycling coordination, legal monitoring and reporting. The model is positioned as outsourced operational support rather than a do-it-yourself compliance product.
The reviewed page does not publish a country-by-country battery matrix or fixed price. Ask the provider to name the countries, schemes and any local subcontractors included in the proposal, and to separate its management fee from third-party and statutory charges.
Best fit: businesses that prefer a consultant-led service and want help selecting and managing take-back arrangements.

What a complete quote should separate
Send the same country and product matrix to every shortlisted provider. Then require each proposal to separate the following items instead of presenting one unexplained annual total.
- Obligation assessment: countries, legal producer, battery category, sales channel and effective date.
- Registration: provider setup fee, authority fee, translation, power of attorney and registration amendments.
- Authorised representative: appointment, annual fee, local address, mandate scope and termination process where applicable.
- PRO or scheme: membership, minimum annual charge, weight or unit fees, category rate and eco-modulation.
- Reporting: frequency, included submissions, correction fees, zero reports and audit support.
- Take-back and recycling: collection triggers, transport, hazardous-goods handling, treatment and evidence of completion.
- Account management: portal access, named contact, response times, legal updates and additional-country onboarding.
- Renewal and exit: annual increases, automatic renewal, data export, open reports and transfer of registrations.
Compare scope, not just the headline price. A low management fee can exclude national scheme charges, take-back, reporting corrections or the authorised representative. A higher quote may include them. Our price-verification policy explains why XrdaGrid does not invent market averages for quote-only services.
Red flags before you appoint a provider
- “One registration covers the EU.” Article 55 requires registration in each relevant Member State.
- No battery-category split. Portable, industrial, LMT, EV and SLI batteries can follow different operational routes.
- No named local route. “Coverage” should identify the authority, PRO or partner used in each country.
- Provider and statutory fees are mixed. You need to know which amounts can change with volume, chemistry, category or national tariffs.
- Registration is promised without ongoing reporting. EPR continues after a number is issued.
- Marketplace approval is guaranteed. A provider can support legal compliance and evidence, but a marketplace controls its own validation workflow.
- Exit is undefined. Confirm who controls the registrations, records and open submissions if the contract ends.
How we compared the providers
Criteria were fixed before provider review: battery-specific service evidence, country coordination, registration and reporting support, producer-responsibility or take-back support, authorised-representative capability, operating model, public price transparency and fit for the stated buyer.
Every included provider has a current first-party page describing battery EPR or battery compliance. Provider statements were used only for provider scope; Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 controls legal claims. Landbell and European Recycling Platform were treated as one corporate lineage. No ranking point was awarded for an unconfirmed affiliate or referral program.
Frequently asked questions
Is there one battery EPR registration for the whole EU?
No. Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 requires registration in each Member State where the producer first makes batteries available. One provider can coordinate several registrations, but it cannot replace them with a single EU number.
What is the difference between a provider and a producer responsibility organisation?
A compliance provider may assess obligations, prepare registrations, coordinate reports and manage vendors. A producer responsibility organisation is an authorised organisation that fulfils specified extended producer-responsibility obligations on producers’ behalf. A provider may operate a PRO in some markets and use a separate scheme or partner in others.
How much does battery EPR compliance cost?
Most providers in this comparison publish no fixed battery tariff. Total cost can include provider setup and management, national authority, authorised-representative, scheme, reporting, weight or unit, take-back and recycling charges. ecosistant advertises a digital-service entry price from €24.90 per country, but battery manuals are add-ons and that figure is not the complete compliance cost.
Can a provider guarantee marketplace acceptance?
No. A provider can help establish the legal registration and prepare supporting records. Amazon, Zalando or another marketplace controls its own data fields, validation and listing decision.
Should I choose one provider for every EU country?
Not automatically. One coordinator can reduce administration, but a split model may be better if a provider has strong direct operations in your main markets and weaker partner coverage elsewhere. Compare the country matrix, accountable entity and full cost before deciding.
Does XrdaGrid receive commissions from these providers?
No. XrdaGrid has no confirmed affiliate relationship with the five providers on this page as of August 25, 2026. All provider links are ordinary links.
